What this test measures

The assessment maps how you relate across the dimensions below — each one a spectrum, not a box.

Vital Physical Exhaustion

Your body is running on reserves it no longer has.

A high score here describes a body running on reserves it no longer has — the allostatic load of months spent pushing through. Sleep does not refill the tank, energy collapses by midday, and ordinary tasks feel strangely heavy, as though gravity has doubled. This is not weakness or poor discipline; it is a physiology that has been asked to function without enough recovery for too long. Your body is not failing you — it is sending an honest message about cost. Meeting that message with curiosity, and with genuine rest, is where rebuilding your energy actually begins.

Cynicism & Emotional Detachment

A protective numbness steps in where caring began to cost too much.

A high score here describes a protective numbness: the mind stepping back from caring because caring has begun to cost too much. Things that once lit you up feel flat, patience runs short, small requests land as intrusions, and you may move through the day on autopilot. This is not coldness or a character flaw — it is the nervous system rationing feeling to survive the load. Cynicism, too, is often self-protection. Recognising the exhaustion underneath the detachment, rather than judging it, is what makes warmth gradually available again.

Prefrontal Cognitive Fog

A tired mind is doing its best with depleted reserves.

A high score here describes a mind that has been running too long on too little fuel: focus that slips after a few minutes, thoughts that move like molasses, and small choices that feel oddly impossible. You may walk into a room and forget why, or lose the thread of a familiar task. This is not a loss of intelligence — it is a prefrontal system under prolonged stress doing the best it can with depleted reserves. Fog is a symptom of load, not of capacity. As recovery returns, clarity usually follows, and gentleness with yourself helps it return sooner.

Restorative Capital & Resilience

You know the way back to a settled baseline.

A high score here describes a real reserve of recovery: the ability to sign off at the end of the day, step away from screens, notice fatigue early, rest without guilt, and let your system settle after stress. This is the dimension that keeps the other three workable — not the absence of pressure, but a reliable way back from it. Restorative capital is built, not fixed; small, repeated acts of genuine rest compound over time. Honour what already recharges you, and protect it as deliberately as you protect your work.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a medical or diagnostic test?

No. This is a self-discovery tool informed by occupational stress and recovery research that maps how strongly different burnout patterns show up in your everyday life. It cannot diagnose a condition, and no score here is a clinical finding. Ongoing exhaustion can also have a physical cause, so if your tiredness is persistent or worsening, it is worth talking with a doctor. For assessment or treatment of burnout or depression, that is a conversation for a qualified professional.

How long does the test take?

About 6 minutes. There are 20 statements, each rated on a 4-point scale, and your personalized report is generated instantly when you finish.

I purchased on Etsy — how do I use the test?

The test is included in your purchase, with no separate code to redeem. To unlock it, open the unlock page and enter your Etsy order number plus the email you used at checkout — your browser then keeps the test available for about a year. No account is needed to take it.

What is a burnout profile constellation?

Your constellation is a named profile reflecting which of the four dimensions is most prominent — for example, 'The Running-on-Empty' (vital exhaustion leads), 'The Numb Protector' (emotional detachment leads), 'The Clouded Mind' (cognitive fog leads), or 'The Steady Recharger' (restorative capacity leads). When your two highest dimensions are close, your profile adds undertones of the second, like 'The Numb Protector with Cognitive Fog Undertones'.

What do the intensity levels mean?

Each dimension is scored 1.0–4.0 and mapped to four levels: Subtle, Mild, Moderate, and Strong. Subtle means the trait barely registers in daily life; Strong means it is a core part of how you are running right now. None of the levels is better or worse — they describe texture, not quality.

Are my answers stored anywhere?

No. Your answers live only in your own browser's temporary session storage while you take the test, and they are cleared when your session ends. We do not store your raw answers on our servers. Only if you choose to save a report does the scored result get stored with your account, so you can reopen it later.

About six minutes from now, you could see your pattern clearly.

Your answers stay on your device — you just get the report.
